The Legal Aid and Advisory Authority of Trinidad and Tobago has been in existence for forty-six (46) years. The Authority was established by the Legal Aid and Advice Act Chapter 7:07 (hereinafter referred to as “the Act”), on the 1st July, 1976; “…to make legal aid and advice in Trinidad and Tobago readily available for persons of small or moderate means, to enable the cost of legal aid or advice granted to persons to be defrayed wholly or partly out of moneis provided by Parliament, and for purposes connected therewith”.
The Authority provided Legal representation in the Magistrates’ Court, High Court and Court of Appeal of Trinidad & Tobago by a lawyer assigned by the Legal Aid & Advisory Authority.
