Job Description
The Port Captain manages NIDCOs Vessel Masters and crewmembers to ensure that vessels are crewed, operated and maintained per regulatory requirements, company standards and customer expectations. Oversees and provides input for crew watch change processes, practices and systems as well as activities such as safety, training, inspection and licensing programs. This position acts as back up to the Manager Marine Services overseeing crew assignments and the placements of qualified mariners. This role will interface with Management on the Operational needs of the business, provide guidance for all crew members and ensure that a high level of customer service is consistently delivered.
Key and Critical Responsibilities
<p><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;"></span>Directs the ferrys operations in manner that ensures passengers safety and security while vessels are underway. </p><p> Monitoring and maintaining conformance to the requirements of the Company Safety Management System (SMS), International Safety Management (ISM) Code within his/her area of responsibility. </p><p> Supervise officers and rating personnel on-board NIDCOs vessels Builds contacts and maintains good working relationships with customers, including Port Authorities, Tug Companies, State regulatory agencies, terminal personnel and port agents and Customs. </p><p> Coordinates watch-to-watch marine personnel assignments with Manager Marine services daily </p><p> Required to stand an after-hours watch as the Operations Point-of-Contact Conducts annual performance appraisals of Vessel Masters with support of HR department </p><p> Conduct underway and dockside assessments of deck department personnel for proficiency in deck operations and harbour assist evolutions </p><p> Conduct final approval for newly Trained personnel who have completed their upgraded certificates. Participates in accident/incident investigations as required by company policy. </p><p> Conduct vessel/shore side audits as required. </p><p> Supervising and conducting inspections with Masters/Mates </p><p> Inspect vessels to ensure seaworthy conditions and arrange for maintenance and repair activities to correct any discrepancies </p><p> Assist monitoring of vessel performance and takes corrective/preventive action when required </p><p> Participating in national safety committees as directed by the Marine Services Manager </p><p> Responsible for making notifications to the local Flag, customs and Class for Marine Inspection for permits to Operate and Droghers. </p><p> Responsible for notifying the local Flag/Class for exemptions and temporary extensions of permits, certificates etc. </p><p> Responsible for coordinating and scheduling all inspections and maintenance on Company vessels as required</p>
