Job Description
<p>This position provides overall legal support services to the Corporate Secretary/Head Legal in the execution of the legal functions of the Unit. The role focuses on contract and Memoranda of Understanding drafting and review, legal research to guide in the preparation of submissions primarily for the Industrial Court and advisory support, while contributing to compliance with applicable legislation and supporting the Units legal and regulatory requirements.</p>
Key and Critical Responsibilities
<ul><li>Drafts and reviews complex and non-routine contracts, agreements, and legal documents, including MOUs and NDAs.</li><li>Conducts detailed legal reviews of contracts and provides recommendations to mitigate legal and operational risks.</li><li>Conducts legal research to support the preparation of legal opinions and advisory notes.</li><li>Researches and prepares documentation for Industrial Relations matters, including submissions to the Court where required.</li><li>Assists in the review and preparation of responses to FOIA requests in accordance with legislative requirements.</li><li>Supports the review and interpretation of legislation impacting the organisations operations.</li><li>Provides legal analyses and recommendations on matters of moderate complexity under the guidance of the Corporate Secretary/Head Legal.</li><li>Engages with internal stakeholders on contractual and regulatory matters under the guidance of the Head Legal.</li><li>Maintains strict confidentiality in handling sensitive legal information.</li><li>Delivers assigned legal outputs, including contracts, legal opinions, and advisory support, within agreed timelines and quality standards.</li></ul>
Key Competencies
<ul><li>Demonstrated experience in drafting and reviewing complex contracts, MOUs, and NDAs. </li><li>Working knowledge of contract law, corporate law, and Industrial Relations matters. </li><li>Experience supporting legal processes and court submissions. </li><li>Strong legal research and analytical skills. </li><li>Proven attention to detail, particularly in the preparation and review of corporate legal documents. </li><li>Strong written and verbal communication skills. </li><li>Strong organisational and time management skills. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality. </li><li>Proven ability to exercise diplomacy, sound judgment and professionalism when handling sensitive and time-critical matters. </li><li>Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Word. </li></ul><div><br></div><div><b>Experience: </b></div><ul><li>At least 3-5 years post-qualification experience as a practising Attorney-at-Law in a corporate law firm or corporate legal department, with familiarity with statutory requirements. </li><li>At least 3-5 years public sector or regulated legal environment experience is desirable. </li></ul><div><br></div><div><b>Education/Accomplishments: </b></div><ul><li>LLB (Bachelor of Laws) from a recognised institution. </li><li>Legal Education Certificate (LEC) or equivalent. </li><li>Admission to practise as an Attorney-at-Law in Trinidad and Tobago. </li><li>Any additional relevant legal or professional certifications is desirable.</li></ul>
