Job Description
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:115%">The Attorney-at-Law is responsible for performing professional legal work, including providing advice and guidance to the Company on a range of legal matters. The incumbent conducts legal research, reviews and interprets legal documents, advises on legal issues of varying complexities and supports the effective management of legal risks. The role also requires the establishment and maintenance of effective working relationships with employees, external stakeholders and members of the public as necessary.</p>
Key and Critical Responsibilities
<p>- Interprets and advises on relevant laws, regulations, statutory requirements and legal obligations to support the Company's compliance and effective governance.</p><p>- Provides legal advice and guidance to the Company on matter affecting its operations including corporate, contractual, regulatory, employment, land, commercial, procurement and other legal issues.</p><p>- Conducts legal research, prepares opinions, briefs, reports and other advisory documents on matters of varying complexity, as directed.</p><p>- Drafts, reviews and advises on contracts, conveyances, agreements, policies, correspondence and other legal documents to safeguard the Company's interests.</p><p>- Represents the Company, either individually or as part of a team, in legal proceedings, contract negotiations, conciliation, arbitration, external meetings, public consultations and other forums, as required.</p><p>- Liaises with external counsel and acts as instructing attorney where external legal services are retained, ensuring that matters are properly managed and aligned with the Company's instructions.</p><p>- Provides legal support in the development, review and implementation of Company policies, procedures and governance documents.</p><p>- Provides legal advice related land tenure, leases, licences and property transactions relevant to Company land and land managed by PSAEL.&nbsp;</p><p>- Handles matters relating to encroachments and boundary disputes affecting Company land and land managed by PSAEL.</p><p>- Keeps abreast of legislative developments and advise management on their implications for the Company.&nbsp;</p><p>- Advises on and supports compliance with Occupational Safety and Health requirements and other applicable regulatory obligations.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p><br></p>
Key Competencies
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:115%"><b><u><span lang="EN-US">Qualifications and Experience:</span></u></b></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:115%"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">- A Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB)</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:115%"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">- Training as evidenced by certification as an Attorney-at-Law</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:115%"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">- At least four (4) years experience in practicing as an Attorney-at-Law</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;"><span lang="EN-US">&nbsp;</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:115%"><span lang="EN-US"><b><u>Knowledge:</u></b></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:115%"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">- Knowledge of the laws of Trinidad and Tobago, including civil, criminal, corporate, employment, industrial relations, conveyancing and administrative law.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:115%"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">- Knowledge of legislative enactments, statutory instruments, regulations, policies and procedures relevant to the Company's operations.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:115%"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">- Knowledge of conveyancing law and practice, including the preparation, review and interpretation of conveyances, leases, agreements and other land-related legal documents.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:115%"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">- Knowledge of court procedures, litigation processes, legal filing requirements and rules of practice before the courts and tribunals of Trinidad and Tobago.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:115%"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">- Knowledge of contract law and practice, including the drafting, review, negotiation and interpretation of contracts, agreements and other legal instruments.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18pt; line-height: 115%;"><br></p>
