Job Description
The Legal Officer reports to the Chief Executive Officer and supervises the Paralegal. The Legal Officer is to provide support to the Chief Executive Officer in providing legal advice, reviewing and drafting all Legal documents and land conveyancing instruments in-house and liaising with all stakeholders on EMBDs legal portfolio.<div><br></div><div><br></div>
Key and Critical Responsibilities
<p><b><i>Legal Representation and Advocacy </i></b></p><p> Advocates on behalf of EMBD in Court as well as monitoring compliance with legal and organizational regulations.<div> Monitors and liaises with external lawyers on legal matters or represent EMBD in Court proceedings.</div><div> Effect compliance and enforcement action as required.</div><div> Works closely with other departments and staff to ensure the legal requirements of the organization are met.</div><div><b><i>Document Preparation and Review</i></b></div><div><b><i> </i></b></div><div> Prepares drafts and reviews legal documents, including but not limited to contracts, leases, conveyances, bonds, securities, bills of sale, deeds of variation, deeds of release, and other instruments.</div><div> Review legal documents and advise on changes to legislation.</div><div> Assists in drafting, negotiating, and reviewing contracts as well as advising on contract negotiations and contract management.</div><div><b><i>Records and Research </i></b></div><div> Maintains and safeguards official and legal records, documents, reports, files, statements, and information as required by law.</div><div> Researches and analyzes legislation, regulations, and legal documents.</div><div><b><i>Planning, Management, and Training </i></b></div><div> Develops work plan with Chief Executive Officer.</div><div> Manages the performance of immediate subordinates, providing advice on technical and administrative matters and providing training as required.</div><p><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">Performs such tasks as may be required for the smooth operation of the department and organisation.&nbsp;</span><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">&nbsp; </span></p><p><b style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;"><i>Qualifications: Minimum</i></b></p><div> Bachelors of Law (LLB).&nbsp;</div><div> Legal Education Certificate (LEC).</div><div> Legal Practice Course (LPC)</div><div> Valid Practising Certificate to practice law in Trinidad and Tobago.</div><div><br></div><div><b><i>Experience: Desired</i></b></div><div> Minimum Three (3) years experience as a practicing Attorney-at-Law.&nbsp;</div><div> Experience in Public Sector/State Enterprise will be considered an asset.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div></p>
