Job Description
The Management Accountant is responsible for producing timely and reliable management information; coordinating the annual budget and periodic forecasts; analyzing financial and operational performance; and supporting management decision-making. The position also performs an independent, documented review of payroll prior to approval and payment, while maintaining appropriate segregation between payroll preparation, review, authorization, payment release and accounting records.
Key and Critical Responsibilities
<ul><li>Co-ordinates preparation of the Annual Budget, including assumptions, departmental submissions, consolidation and supporting schedules.</li><li>Maintains budgetary controls and facilitates period budget reviews, revisions and forecasts.&nbsp;</li><li>Reviews Balance Sheet reconciliations, accruals, prepayments and provisions for accuracy, completeness and timely reconciling of items</li><li>Reviews cost allocations, project charges and accounting treatment to ensure consistency with approved policies and applicable reporting requirements.&nbsp;</li><li>Supervises and verifies the accurate and timely preparation of all financial statements and reports.</li><li>Manages variance reporting process by liaising with departmental heads and identifying remedial action.</li><li>Provides clear analysis of revenue, expenditure, cash flow, projects, cost centers and other key performance indicators.</li><li>Independently reviews the payroll package before submission for approval.&nbsp;</li><li>Investigates material variances against budget, forecast and prior periods; obtains explanations from responsible department and recommends corrective action.</li><li>Develops dashboards, schedules and financial models to support executive management, Board and Committee reporting.</li><li>Ensures management reports are accurate, complete, internally consistent and supported by appropriate working papers.</li><li>Assists with Plans and co-ordinates for external/internal audits.</li><li>Supervises and develops assigned staff, sets performance expectations, reviews work and supports training and succession planning.</li><li>Ensures compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Regulations.</li><li>Performs any other duties as may be required to successfully achieve this job function.</li></ul>
Key Competencies
<div><b>Qualifications and Experience:</b></div><ul><li>Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline. A recognized professional accounting qualification (for example ACCA, CIMA, CMA or equivalent), completed or at an advanced stage, is strongly preferred.</li><li>At least five (5) years relevant accounting experience, including management reporting, budgeting, reconciliations and financial analysis.
