Job Description
To assist the Company Secretary/Legal Services Department in ensuring that legal, statutory, and other provisions governing or affecting the operations of NIPDEC are observed.<div><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;"><br></span></div><div><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">To serve as Secretary to selected sub-Committees and ad-hoc Committees of the Board.</span></div><div><br></div>
Key and Critical Responsibilities
Represent the Company at negotiations towards the settlement of legal matters.<div><br></div><div> Provide legal advice and opinions on matters pertaining to the operations of NIPDEC.</div><div><br></div><div> Participates in court case preparation work such as interviewing witnesses, taking depositions, preparing pre-trial briefs, and preparing draft pleadings for filing.</div><div><br></div><div> Prepares legal opinions.</div><div><br></div><div> Provide advice and guidance to Legal Officer and other support staff.</div><div><br></div><div> Review and draft Contracts, Leases, Conveyances, Bonds, Loan documents and other legal documents.</div><div><br></div><div> Assist with the preparation of monthly departmental reports, annual budget, and strategic business plans.</div><div><br></div><div> Represent the Company in any legal matter as and when requested before the Magistrate Court, High Court, Court of Appeal, or Industrial Court.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div> Deputise for the Company Secretary in all matters pertaining to that role.</div><div><br></div><div> Assist the Company Secretary in managing the operations of the Department.</div><div><br></div><div> Perform related functions as required.</div><div><br></div>
Key Competencies
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:<div><br></div><div>Minimum Requirements:</div><div><br></div><div> A Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB) and a Legal Education Certificate (LEC) or equivalent from a recognized institution.&nbsp;&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div> A minimum of eight (8) years experience as a practicing Attorney, three (3) of which should be at a managerial level, preferably in the construction industry.</div><div><br></div><div> Experience in FIDIC, Industrial Relations and Company Secretarial function would be considered an asset&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div> Any equivalent combination of qualifications and experience.</div><div><br></div><div>Special Skills and Knowledge:</div><div><br></div><div><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;"> Knowledge of Company Law, Contract Law, and Construction Law under the laws of Trinidad and Tobago or any other Caribbean Country.</span></div><div><br></div><div> Considerable knowledge of modern management techniques and practices.</div><div><br></div><div> Ability to exercise mature judgement and discretion in assessing programmes, in making difficult job decisions and interpreting policies and procedures.</div><div><br></div><div> Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.</div><div><br></div><div> Full working knowledge of the Microsoft Office software package.</div><div><br></div><div>PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:</div><div><br></div><div> Standards set in relation to the Departments business plan, strategic objectives, and budgets.</div><div><br></div><div> NIPDECs policies and procedures.</div><div><br></div><div> Established professional standards, industry best practice and statutory requirements.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div>
