Job Description
The incumbent is required to investigate all the applicants who apply for Legal Aid or individuals who would have been granted Legal Aid by the Honourable Court in order to assist the Public Defender to establish the applicants defense, and meet with witnesses who were present at the scene of the crime/offence, performing scene recognition and scene documentation evidence collection.
Key and Critical Responsibilities
<ul><li>Coordinates investigations including scheduling work assignments, setting priorities and providing guidance and support to other team members</li><li>Records findings and disseminates necessary information to the appropriate departments</li><li>locates and interviews all witnesses, examination of evidence, preservation and recreation of crime scenes and serving of subpoenas</li><li>Interviews witnesses of crime, taking high quality, accurate statements for inclusion in case files in order to secure the best defense/evidence through thorough investigation including conducting video recording</li></ul><p><br></p>
Key Competency
<ul><li>A good understanding of of criminal law and legal procedures surrounding the investigation of a crime</li><li>A thorough knowledge of the Laws of Trinidad and Tobago and Criminal Law and procedure in Trinidad and Tobago, together with the rules of evidence</li><li>Works collaboratively with team members supporting and dealing with a wide range of crime within a division</li><li>Ability to get information from people and to deal tactfully with people of varying levels of intelligence&nbsp;</li></ul>
