Job Description
The Building Inspector is required for the inspecting of all buildings and building areas both in the course of construction and on completion, to ensure adherence to approved plans and conformance with the requirements of the building laws and regulations. Work is performed in accordance with fixed policies and procedures and is reviewed by a superior Officer through inspections and reports.
Key and Critical Responsibilities
Examines plans and specifications and make recommendations for approval for the construction and alteration of building area layouts.<div> Checks structural details including diagrams of reinforced concrete, steel and timber structures, and makes detailed sketches and corrections on plans.</div><div> Inspects and report on buildings during and after construction to ensure compliance with the building laws and regulations.</div><div> Explains and interest provisions of the Building Bye-Laws and regulations to architect, contractors, property owners and other interested persons.</div><div> Performs related work as may be required.</div><div><br></div>
Key Competencies
Knowledge of the Public Health Ordinance and the Building Bye-Laws and Regulations.<div> Knowledge of the methods used in building construction.</div><div> Ability to read and interpret building plans and specifications and to recognize deviations from such plans.</div><div> Ability to explain, interpret and enforce compliance with the Building Bye-Laws firmly and tactfully,</div><div> Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with associated , contractors and architects.</div><div> Excellent communication, organizational and analytical skills.</div><div> Proficiency in Microsoft Office.</div><div> Ability to read and interpret building plans and specifications and to recognize deviation from such plans.</div><div> Knowledge and methods in building bye-laws, regulations, building codes and the ability to interpret, explain and enforce compliance.</div><div> Knowledge of Auto CAD would be an asset</div><div> Experience in building construction works and training as evidenced by a National Engineering Technician Diploma (NETD) in Civil Engineering or other equivalent combination of experience and training.</div><div> At least (10) Ten years experience in the field.</div>
