Job Description
The incumbent will be required to carry out examinations of childrens teeth, identifying characteristics of dental caries and diseases and relating them to oral pathological conditions, developing and executing treatment plans on patients, which may include using dental instruments and equipment and applying medicaments to teeth. Work will also include participating in a Dental Health Education Programme for children and mothers attending antenatal clinics. Work is subject to occasional review through examinations of dental treatment applied to children, general observations and reports for adherence to instructions and approved standards.<div><br></div><div>The Authority reserves the right to assign the officer to any Facility under its management.</div><div><br></div>
Key and Critical Responsibilities
<ul><li>Obtains medical and dental history of children, examine and charts the dental conditions.<ul></ul></li><li>Determines a dental treatment plan and gives treatment at six (6) month intervals.</li><li>Performs oral prophylaxis and applies topical medicaments to teeth to aid in arresting dental decay.</li><li>Extracts deciduous teeth under local anesthesia.</li><li>Prepares and fills cavities (in the deciduous and permanent teeth).</li><li>Lectures on the care of the teeth and oral hygiene to children, mothers attending antenatal clinics and other youth groups.</li><li>Prepares reports and keeps appropriate records of dental treatment on children.</li><li>Charts conditions of tooth decay and diseases and refers cases for diagnosis and treatment by a dentist where necessary.</li><li>Sterilizes instruments and checks routinely the dental equipment of which he/she is in charge.</li></ul>
Key Competencies
<ul><li>Five (5) C.X.C./G.C.E, Ordinary Level passes including English Language and a Science Subject.<ul></ul></li><li><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">Certificate of successful completion of an approved course of training as a Dental Nurse from an accredited School of Dentistry.</span></li><li><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">Enrolment with the Dental Council of Trinidad and Tobago.</span></li></ul>
