Job Description
The Medical Social Work Assistant will be responsible for assisting the professional Medical Social Worker in the performance of his/her duties. All work is performed under the direct supervision of the Medical Social Worker. Although the Officer is expected to exercise some initiative, at no time should he/she make independent decisions which would interfere with the process of case management outlined by the Medical Social Worker.<div><br></div><div>The Authority reserves the right to assign the officer to any Facility under its management.</div><div><br></div>
Key and Critical Responsibilities
<ul><li>Liaises with social service and other agencies on behalf of clients.</li><li>Liaises with members of the health team and other departments within the institution.</li><li>Maintains information on the progress of specific clients and informs Medical Social Workers of any lapse in service.</li><li>Provides factual information to clients.</li><li>Assists Medical Social Workers in data collection for reports, research papers and any other projects.</li><li>Collects and organizes resource material.</li><li>Performs case registration and client bio-data interviews.</li><li>Assists with the allocation of resources for clients.</li><li>Assists in the compilation of Medical Aid applications.</li><li>Performs related duties as may be assigned.</li></ul>
Key Competencies
<ul><li>A Certificate/ Associate Degree in Social Work from a recognized Institution.</li><li>A minimum of five (5) O level/CXC passes, one of which must be English Language.</li><li>Experience in a Social Work environment will be an asset.</li><li>Computer literate.</li><li>Any equivalent combination of training and experience.</li></ul>
