Job Description
<p>The Mental Health Officer II is responsible for supervising the Mental Health Officer I as well as community Mental Health activities within the South West Region. In addition, the Mental Health Officer II provides preventative and restorative mental health care to individuals, families, groups and communities.&nbsp;</p><p></p><div>The Authority reserves the right to assign the officer to any Facility under its management.</div><div><br></div><p></p>
Key and Critical Responsibilities
<ul><li>Supervises and provides guidance to Mental Health Officer Is and Mental Health Aides as it pertains to their role and function in the delivery of services.<ul></ul></li><li>Provides support and guidance to the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), as well as clinical input as it relates to diagnosis, treatment planning and the general welfare of mentally ill persons and their families.&nbsp;</li><li>Undertakes Mental Health Assessment and arranges appropriate intervention, including admission to the Psychiatric Ward or Hospital.&nbsp;</li><li>Supervises the functioning of the Psychiatric out-patient clinics.</li><li>Attends and participates in Ward Rounds and Conferences at Ward I and St. Anns Hospital.</li><li>Participates in the planning and delivery of mental health promotional activities.</li><li>Participates and contributes to Departmental supervisory meetings, Committees and Policy Development.&nbsp;</li><li>Builds alliances with other organizations (Government and Non-Government Officers) to educate with the emphasis on wellness and prevention.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li>Advocates on behalf of clients as it pertains to Mental Health issues.&nbsp;</li><li>Engages in developmental initiatives including basic research.&nbsp;</li><li>Supervises the training of student nurses and other as related.</li></ul>
Key Competencies
<ul><li><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">Certificate in Social Work or Certificate in Community Health Nursing.</span></li><li>Registered Mental Nurse with eight (8) years experience as a Mental Health Officer I.&nbsp;</li><li>Registered and retained with the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago in Mental Health Nursing.</li><li>Post graduate qualifications in Nursing/ Mental Health Nursing is considered an asset.&nbsp;</li></ul><div><br></div>
