Job Description
The Psychiatric Social Worker I renders professional casework services to mentally ill and emotionally disturbed patients in an attempt to overcome emotional and financial obstacles.<div>The Psychiatric Social Worker I will be involved in the study, evaluation and interpretation of the social, economic, emotional and environmental backgrounds of mentally ill patients for use in the preparation of plans for their adjustment and rehabilitation; facilitation of response to treatment and easing of financial and social burdens caused by illness which necessitate confinement in a mental institution or in the community.</div><div><br></div><div>The Authority reserves the right to assign the officer to any Facility under its management.</div><div><br></div>
Key and Critical Responsibilities
<ul><li>Interviews individual patients, members of their families and surveys home conditions for an evaluation of their personal problems and for additional information.</li><li>Interprets to a higher-level psychiatric social worker, doctors and nurses, the social, economic, environmental and personal factors of a case related to the medical care and rehabilitation of the patient.</li><li>Visits and maintains contacts with patients requiring out-patient treatment and aids in their personal development.</li><li>Prepares case histories and reports and confers with supervisor on work problems and case reports.</li><li>Participates as a member of a team with medical and para-medical personnel for the purpose of diagnosis and plan of treatment.</li><li>Liaises with employers of patients, networks with social agencies and makes arrangements for patients rehabilitation and any payment due to them such as sick pay and insurance benefits.</li><li>Participates in activities of the Mental Health Association.&nbsp;</li><li>Attends and participates in Ward Rounds/ Case Conferences.</li><li>Engages in development initiatives including basic research.</li><li>Supervises and trains Social Work students and others as related.</li></ul>
Key Competencies
<ul><li>The incumbent is required to possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work.</li><li>The incumbent must be registered with the Medical and Psychiatric Social Workers Board.</li><li>Experience obtained during the one (1) year period of internship in the field of Social Work.</li></ul>
