Job Description
The Transit Police Superintendent functions under a hybrid styled reporting relationship. While under the direct supervision of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of National Security, the Commissioner of Police maintains general command of the Transit Police Unit (TPU). Essentially, the Superintendent is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Unit, through the development and implementation of crime reduction strategies and procedures in the public transportation sub-sector. 
Key and Critical Responsibilities
<ul><li>Ensures the implementation of policies and adherence to rules, regulations and standard operating procedures.&nbsp;</li><li>Devises work plans and schedules for the effective operation of the Unit.</li><li>Monitors and reviews the work performed by staff and provides technical advice and guidance in respect of complex matters.</li><li>Reviews the performance appraisal process to ensure compliance with established standards.</li><li>Identifies training needs and recommends and implements suitable training programmes for staff development.</li><li>Performs human resource management functions including but not limited to matters of recruitment and training, performance measurement, promotion, leave and discipline.&nbsp;</li><li>Makes policy recommendations with respect to the operations of the Unit.</li><li>Coordinates and supervises arrangements for special events and operations.</li><li>Submits reports to designated officials in relation to the operations and activities of the Unit.</li><li>Directs the investigation of complex criminal matters or occurrences.</li><li>Represents the Unit at meetings, seminars and workshops.</li><li>Continuously monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of Transit Police service delivery methods and procedures.</li><li>Stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of transit/transport policing.</li><li><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">Acts as a liaison to and coordinates activities and programs with other criminal justice agencies.</span></li><li>Performs other duties related to the job which may be assigned from time to time</li></ul>
Key Competency
<ul><li>Advanced knowledge of law enforcement principles and the criminal justice system.</li><li>Extensive knowledge of the rules pertinent to evidence and court procedures.</li><li>Practical knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.</li><li>Sound knowledge of management policies and procedures.</li><li>Ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully and with respect for the right of others.</li></ul><ul><li>Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively, and to determine a proper course of action to be taken.</li><li>Ability to maintain and ensure the confidentiality of privileged information.</li><li>Ability to work long hours, nights, weekends and public holidays.</li><li>Ability to perform effectively both independently and as part of a team.&nbsp;</li><li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li></ul><p><br></p><p><b><u>Minimum Experience and Training:&nbsp;</u></b></p><ul><li>At least ten (10) years experience as a law enforcement officer in a supervisory capacity and training in management from a recognized institution.</li></ul><p><br></p>
