Job Description
The incumbent is required to perform work involving the conduct of research related to the laws and legal&nbsp;<span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">issues pertinent to the operations of the Ministry/Department. Duties include preparing legal documents and&nbsp;</span><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">developing and maintaining a repository of documents on legal matters. Dependent on assignment, the&nbsp;</span><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">incumbent may be required to perform the full range or some of the duties listed.</span>
Key and Critical Responsibilities
Provides legal research and analysis on matters related to the Ministrys or Departments operations, preparing written opinions, reports, and briefs while reviewing legal documents and recommending amendments where necessary. Assists in drafting legislative materials, contracts, agreements, and Cabinet or Ministerial notes, and maintains a repository of relevant laws, judgments, and precedents. Also represents the Division at meetings and liaises with internal and external stakeholders to support legal and administrative functions.
Key Competencies
Demonstrates considerable knowledge of legal research methods, legal drafting principles, and the laws and court procedures of Trinidad and Tobago, including regulations relevant to the Ministrys or Departments operations. Possesses strong analytical and research skills with the ability to interpret legal issues, prepare clear written and oral explanations, and maintain strict confidentiality. Proficient in Microsoft Office, computer applications, and e-Government platforms, with the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.
