Job Description
The incumbent is required to perform professional legal work in a Ministry/Department under the&nbsp;<span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">direct supervision of a higher-level legal officer. Duties include appearing in court, providing legal&nbsp;</span><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">advice and opinions and drafting legal documents on the matters involving the Ministry/ Department.&nbsp;</span><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">Depending on the assignment, the incumbent may be required to perform some or the full range of the&nbsp;</span><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">duties of the position.&nbsp;</span>
Key and Critical Responsibilities
Provides legal support by representing the Ministry or Department in court on assigned matters and offering advice on less complex legal issues. Conducts legal research, interprets laws and regulations, and prepares legal opinions, briefs, and draft documents, including contracts, leases, and memoranda of agreement. Also assists with case preparation, legislative review, and the drafting of Cabinet or Ministerial notes and other legal correspondence.
Key Competencies
<p>Demonstrates sound knowledge of the laws of Trinidad and Tobago, legal principles, court procedures, and legal research methods, with familiarity with legislation relevant to the Ministrys or Departments operations. Possesses strong analytical and drafting skills, with the ability to interpret legal issues and clearly present legal arguments both orally and in writing while maintaining confidentiality. Proficient in Microsoft Office, computer applications, and e-Government platforms, and able to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.</p><p><b><i><u>MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:</u></i></b></p><ul><li>No experience required. </li><li>Bachelor of Law Degree from a recognised institution. </li><li>Legal Education Certificate or equivalent from a recognised institution. </li><li>Admission to practice Law in Trinidad and Tobago.</li></ul>
