Job Description
The incumbent is responsible for maintaining law and order, preserving the peace, protecting life and property, preventing and detecting crime, apprehending offenders and enforcing all national laws in accordance with the Police Service Act 2006, Section 45.
Key and Critical Responsibilities
<b>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: </b><div>1. Enforces and maintains law and order in as assigned geographical area. This involves: </div><div>(i) Patrolling areas on foot or in patrol vehicles; </div><div>(ii) Arresting violators of law; </div><div>(iii)Participating in the conduct of searches of persons/vehicles I premises; </div><div>(iv)Operating/ driving police vehicles. </div><div>2. Conducts investigations of alleged or suspected criminal violations of law. This involves inter alia examining scene for clues/evidence and interrogating witnesses; and submits report to supervisor. </div><div>3. Directs and controls the flow of traffic and enforces traffic laws as necessary. </div><div>4. Participates in certain police operations such as roadblocks, searches of vehicles/buildings/persons for general violations of law. </div><div>5. Attends court as a complainant or witness. </div><div>6. Guards suspects such as those at police stations and those undergoing treatment at health institt1tions. </div><div>7. Records, serves and executes warrants, summonses and other official documents as directed by relevant authority. </div><div>8. Records, secures physical evidence and the property of prisoners. </div><div>9. Performs other police duties such as: fingerprinting suspects; crowd control; escort duties; sentry duties; guarding V.I.P's and other </div><div>dignitaries; maintaining law and order at court and public functions. </div><div>10. To assist in the establishment and development of Youth Clubs and other Community groups aimed at developing its members in a positive manner. </div><div>11. To assist in developing programmes aimed at promoting wholesome communities using skills efforts such as planning, designing, organizing and networking with relevant community groups. </div><div>12. To identify and arrange social and/or psychological support for victims </div><div>of domestic violence. These resources can include counselling and Safe Housing. </div><div>13. To assist domestic violence victims desirous of obtaining legal redress or support, by providing them with information and guidance, such as for e.g </div><div>how to obtain a protection order in accordance with the law. </div><div>14. To interface with residents, record their problems and to report communities' problems to supervisors. </div><div>15. to assist in developing strategies to solve community problems. </div><div>16. Performs other duties related to job function, which may be assigned from time to time. </div><div><br></div><div> </div>
Key Competencies
