<p><b>Kind of Work</b></p><p>Skilled work in the tailoring trade</p><p><b>Distinguishing Features of Work</b></p><p><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">An employee in this class performs a variety of hand and machine sewing tasks in the repair and manufacture of garments for use in various divisions of the Police Service. Work is usually of a routine nature and is performed according to detailed specifications under the supervision of a higher-level Tailor. Work is reviewed for adherence to instructions and for quantity of the finished product.&nbsp;</span></p>
Key and Critical Responsibilities
<ul><li><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">Performs one or more specialized hand or machine sewing operations in the manufacture of made-to-measure uniforms, overalls and other clothing, and in the alteration of ready-to-wear clothing.&nbsp;</span></li></ul><p></p><ul><li> Uses hand tools for laying out, cutting, assembling, sewing, fitting or altering textile fabrics, sheet rubber, felt, cellophane or related materials used to make various cloth articles or wearing apparel.&nbsp;</li><li> Lays out, cuts, stuffs, assembles, turns, sews, tacks and finishes materials related to upholstered parts of furniture, chairs or mattresses.&nbsp;</li><li> Cuts cloth and sews together to make made-to-order garments.&nbsp;</li><li> Fits ready-made clothing to wearers by such devices as lengthening or shortening sleeves, resetting collar and taking in or letting out sleeves.&nbsp;</li><li> Inspects fit or partially completed garments on wearer and marks with chalk exact alterations which must be made.&nbsp;</li><li> Stitches shoulder padding, coat facing lining together at the armhole, by hand.&nbsp;</li><li> Bastes shoulder padding in place.&nbsp;</li><li> Sets sleeves and yokes.&nbsp;</li><li> Presses garments.&nbsp;</li><li> Performs related work as required.&nbsp;</li></ul><div><br></div><p></p>

<p><b>Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</b></p><ul><li>Knowledge of the tailoring trade.</li><li>Some knowledge of the materials and methods used in sewing and mending articles of clothing. </li><li>Some knowledge of the operation and care of sewing machines. </li><li>Skill in use of hand and machine tools employed in the trade. </li><li>Ability to follow patterns and other specifications. </li><li>Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions. </li><li>Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees and clients.&nbsp;<div><b style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;"><br></b></div><div><b style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">Minimum Experience and Training&nbsp;</b></div><ul><li><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">Must possess a minimum of at least two (2) years experience in the tailoring trade</span></li><li><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">A NEC Level II (Craft/Craftsman Level) certificate in Tailoring; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.</span></li></ul><div><b><br></b></div><div><b>N.B. : </b>All shortlisted candidates would be required to undergo a practical assessment.</div><div><br></div></li></ul>
