Job Description
The Vice President of Science and Technology reports to the President and provides overall leadership and management of the science, technology and innovation (STI) functions of NIHERST. These include the key areas - research and intelligence gathering to shape STI policy and guide the funding of research and development (R&D); promoting innovation and commercialization of technology in priority areas; raising the profile of STI nationally; and building collaborative global relationships.
Key and Critical Responsibilities
1. Manages, coordinates and monitors the areas of STI policy advice, research and development, and innovation including the preparation and oversight of programmes, work plans and budgets, and the supervision of staff.<div><br></div><div>2. Provides inputs into national and sectoral STI policies and strategies and ensures coherence and synergies of NIHERST initiatives with such policies and strategies.</div><div><br></div><div>3. Plans and oversees foresight projects of relevance to the NIHERST mandate.</div><div><br></div><div>4. Evaluates new and emerging technologies and their possible application to local challenges.</div><div><br></div><div>5. Identifies and prioritizes niche areas in STI for the country and develops strategies and opportunities for their development.</div><div><br></div><div>6. Develops, manages, and monitors scientific research, development and innovation (R, D&amp;I) initiatives and the provision of S&amp;T services including supporting funding schemes.</div><div><br></div><div>7. Develops framework and strategy to incentivize S&amp;T based innovation and creativity.</div><div><br></div><div>8. Oversees the collection of data on STI development nationally and internationally as relevant.</div><div><br></div><div>9. Supports the development and identification of sources of funding for STI projects.</div><div><br></div><div>10. Builds external networks at senior levels and develops strategic alliances in national and international spheres</div><div><br></div><div>11. Represents the organization on advisory STI bodies, committees and agencies.</div><div><br></div><div>12. Performs other duties related to the job</div>
Key Competencies
