Job Description
The Research Specialist is responsible for the undertaking of research work to support the continued maintenance and development of new and existing Police Academy Programmes at various levels.  Further, responsible for the coordinating of research activities in the various functional areas of the Police Academy. 
Key and Critical Responsibilities
<ul><li>Identifies and catalogues best practices in all aspects of professional policing.&nbsp;</li><li>Conducts research studies for the purpose of determining needs for training, development and accreditation.</li><li>Develops research surveys, questionnaires or tests.&nbsp;</li><li>Conducts focus group and interviews for research purposes.</li><li>Compiles, collates, analyzes, evaluates and interprets data collected.&nbsp;</li><li>Provides statistical data on the Academy's training programmes.</li><li>Coordinates the compilation of data for the Academy's administrative reports.</li><li>Formulates policy and guidelines for conducting research and evaluation of programmes and courses offered at the Police Academy.&nbsp;</li><li>Supports the registration of the Police Academy with the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT).</li><li>Conducts constant assessment of training needs in the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.</li><li>Prepares statistical and other reports based on research findings.&nbsp;</li><li>Coordinates the work of a group of lower-level staff.&nbsp;</li><li>Responsible for the monitoring and evaluating of courses and programmes.</li><li>Any other related duties.</li><li>Work on weekends (when the need arises).</li></ul>

<p><b><u>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES;</u></b></p><p><b>KNOWLEDGE;</b></p><ul><li>knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, data collection and maintenance.</li><li>Knowledge of the theory, systems and practices of research and of the standard sources and uses of information in&nbsp; social sciences.&nbsp;</li></ul><p><br></p><p><b>SKILLS AND ABLITIES:&nbsp;</b></p><ul><li>Excellent research skills.</li><li>Excellent communication and presentation skills.</li><li>Ability to conduct internet based research using Internet Explorer and / or Mozilla Firefox.</li><li>Ability to work as part of a team.&nbsp;</li><li>Verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.</li><li>Ability to represent findings and conclusions effectively in appropriate tabular, graphic and written forms.</li><li>Ability to design instruments of research.&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to analyze and evaluate problems objectively.</li><li>Supervisory skills.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><b><u>MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:</u></b></p><ul><li>Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Sciences.</li><li>Three (3) years proven experience in research project activities.&nbsp;</li><li>Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe products and related digital imagery software.</li><li>Proficiency in the use of research databases both quantitative and qualitative.</li><li>Project Management training an asset.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li></ul>
