Job Description
<p>The Guidance Counsellor will be responsible for assessing students' needs, goals, interests, and prior academic experiences towards the development and implementation of an effective academic plan, so as to guide their decision making with respect to career goals.&nbsp; He / She will collaborate with faculty to address group or individual needs of students such as, adapting to academy life and coping in high stress environments.&nbsp; He / She will also be responsible for interpreting and communicating the Academy's policies, procedures and programme options to facilitate students' academic success.</p><p><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">The guidance counsellor provides support services to students, staff and parents.&nbsp; Support services include referrals, counseling, assessment, diagnostic and report writing.&nbsp;</span></p>
Key and Critical Responsibilities
<ul><li>Facilitate student career planning and decision-making and interpret career assessment instruments.</li><li>Develop and conduct workshops and seminars addressing the areas of Family, Career Development, Human Development, Life Skills and academy success.&nbsp;</li><li>Conduct counselling sessions with students to help them think critically in resolving conflicts, solve problems or making decisions.</li><li>Provide counselling to students experiencing difficulties and/or personal problems and where necessary refer them to internal or external.</li><li>Demonstrate leadership in serving as a student advocate and consultant to faculty and staff.</li><li>Demonstrate initiative in assuming new assignments to address the needs of students and the department.</li><li>Provides direct support service to individual students, small groups and classrooms.&nbsp;</li><li>Complete assessments, referrals and counselling with students and families.&nbsp;</li><li>Consults with other professional staff, outside agencies and other organizations.</li><li>Develops and maintain family outreach programs and community partnerships.</li><li>Completes written reports as needed or as requested.</li><li>Other duties as assigned.</li><li>Provide direct service to students in the classroom.&nbsp;</li><li>Conduct professional development workshop on identifying at-risk students.</li><li>Interview students and families.</li><li>Make oral presentations of assessments, diagnostics and observations.&nbsp;</li></ul>

<p><b><u>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:</u></b></p><p><b>KNOWLEDGE;</b></p><ul><li>Knowledge of counseling techniques as well as various methods of psychological testing.</li></ul><p><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;"><br></span></p><p><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;"><b>SKILLS AND ABILITIES:</b></span></p><ul><li><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students and the general public.</span></li><li><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">Possess computer literacy skills and experience using the Microsoft Office Suite.</span></li></ul><p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.</span></p><p><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;"><br></span></p><p><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;"><b><u>MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING;</u></b></span></p><ul><li><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">Master's Degree (preferred) in field of Social Services.</span></li><li>Bachelor's degree in a Social Science.</li><li>At least five (5) years' experience in a counselling environment.&nbsp;</li><li>Or, any fitting combination of experience and qualification.</li></ul>
