Job Description
The incumbent is required to provide support in establishing and maintaining the highest standards of occupational safety and health in accordance with the Ministry's policies, procedures and legislative requirements. The Officer will be responsible for the coordination, implementation and monitoring of occupational safety and health programmes and procedures at Divisions/Units to protect the safety, health and staff, contractors and visitors on the Ministry's premises.
Key and Critical Responsibilities
- Maintains an overall knowledge of the Ministry's Occupational Safety and Health policies and OSH strategic goals and objectives. <div>- Work collaboratively with management in the introduction, implementation and maintenance of OSH policies, procedure and safe systems of work. </div><div>- Conduct inspection, risk assessments, job safety analysis and audits and prepare reports of findings. </div><div>- Develop safe systems of work, standard operating procedures, manuals, guidelines etc. and conduct sensitization and training for employees. </div><div>- Assist in the preparation of annual training plans and coordinate all training activities. </div><div>- Facilitate site visits and inspections of the premises by regulatory agencies. </div><div>-Work closely with management in coordinating Divisional Safety and Health Committees and provide advisory services at committee meetings. </div><div>- Investigate and report occupational complaints, injuries, illnesses or deaths and maintain accurate records of the same. </div><div>- Review and assess the risks for proposals that affect changes in working environment (new facilities, equipment, processes etc.) and make recommendations in line with occupational safety and health legislation and standards. </div><div>- Prepare Divisional budget proposals for the operation and maintenance of the safety and health programme. </div><div>- Promotes health and safety awareness and a positive safety culture among employees. </div><div>- Assists Divisions/Units with the procurement safety and health equipment, material, devices, etc. </div><div>- Perform any other job related duties which may be assigned.</div>
