Job Description
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; letter-spacing: 0.3pt; font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">The incumbent is required to perform Legal work in the Municipal Corporation</span><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">. Duties include appearing in court, providing legal advice and opinions and drafting legal documents on the matter involving the Municipal Corporation. Depending on assignment,&nbsp;</span><span style="letter-spacing: 0.4px;">the incumbent may be required to perform some of the full range of the duties of the position.</span></p>
Key and Critical Responsibilities
<ul><li style="line-height: 150%;">Provides general advice and counsels in legal matters/issues to the Corporation and other stakeholders</li><li style="line-height: 150%;">Provides advice for less complex matters</li><li style="line-height: 150%;">Plan, organise, coordinate all activities and operations of the Municipal Corporation Secretariat and all other arrangements for meetings of the Council and Sub Committees</li><li style="line-height: 150%;">Attends all meetings of Council and other related meetings and vets minutes of Meetings and circulate decisions of the Council and committees to all relevant parties</li><li style="line-height: 150%;">Assists in reviewing the work activities/operations of relevant employees in the department and other employees within the organisation</li><li style="line-height: 150%;">Represents the Municipal Corporation at meetings, in court and or any other legal matters/issues as required by the Corporation</li><li style="line-height: 150%;">Prepares and issues written notices and agenda papers/documents of monthly and other Statutory Meetings as provided by Law</li><li style="line-height: 150%;">Performs any other related duties and responsibilities consistent with the job title/position<o:p></o:p></li></ul>
Key Competency
<ul><li>An Attorney at Law with at least five (5) years post qualification, experience or evidence of LLB or experience in a Corporate Environment</li><li>Demonstrated experience developing policy, procedures and/or corporate practices</li><li>Experience and training in Law and Local Government Administration would be asset</li><li>Considerable knowledge of the Municipal Corporations Act, Bye Laws, Regulations, practices and procedures associated with Local Government</li><li>Working knowledge of legislation, procedures and practices relevant to the operations of the Corporation</li><li>Working knowledge of Tender &amp; Contract, Litigation, Conveyancing and Industrial Relations laws and practices</li><li>Knowledge of the principles and techniques of Public Administration. Management and Supervision</li><li>Ability to work independently with a minimum of direction</li><li>Knowledge of Court Procedures of Trinidad and Tobago</li><li>Excellent communication skills (oral, written and interpersonal)</li><li>Ability of maintain effective working relationships with others</li></ul>
