Job Description
The Assistant Accountant reports to the Accountant/ Finance Manager and is required to perform the activities relating to the management of the accounts, revenue and expenditure of the Company.
Key and Critical Responsibilities
<ul><li> Prepares monthly journals. </li><li> Prepares bi-monthly VAT returns. </li><li> Prepares quarterly Corporation tax, Business Levy and Green Fund payments. </li><li> Prepares bank reconciliations. </li><li> Prepares monthly management accounts. </li><li> Prepares annual audit schedules. </li><li> Prepares annual Financial Statements in accordance with IFRS. </li><li> Assists with the annual external audit. </li><li> Prepares quarterly reports to the Ministry of Finance. </li><li> Prepares Monthly Statement of Cash Flows to the Ministry of Finance. </li><li> Assists in recording of expenditure incurred on all residential and agricultural projects. </li><li> Maintains and reconciles all general ledger accounts. </li><li> Reconciles and maintains the integrity of the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Sub Ledgers. </li><li> Assists in the preparation of Annual Estimates/Budget of Expenditure. </li><li> Assists in the preparation of requests for release of funds from the Line Ministry. </li><li> Collates and prepares particulars of contributions to various funds. </li><li> Monitors and maintains the security of all documents within the Finance Department. </li><li> Daily monitoring of the sales proceeds from the EMBDs quarrying activities. </li><li> Verifies the balances of prepaid customers from the EMBDs quarrying activities. </li><li><br></li></ul>
Key Competencies
<ul><li><b><i>Qualifications: Minimum </i></b></li><li>Completed ACCA Advanced Diploma (Level 3 or above) or equivalent qualifications</li><li><br></li><li><b><i>Experience: Desired </i></b></li><li> Five (5) years experience in a similar position. </li><li> Experience in Public Sector/State Enterprise will be considered an asset.</li><li> </li><li><b><i>Behavioural Competencies: Desired </i></b></li><li> High degree of integrity and confidentiality. </li><li> Adaptable to changing needs of the department. </li><li> Must be methodical and accurate. </li><li> Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. </li><li> Organisational awareness.</li><li> </li><li><b><i>Technical Competencies: Desired </i></b></li><li> Proficiency in the use of SAGE, QuickBooks accounting and payroll software such as Micropay. </li><li> Proficiency in the Microsoft Excel and Word. </li><li> Knowledge of Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Property Act 2015, as amended. </li><li> Knowledge of internal control frameworks, risk assessment methodologies, and compliance requirements. </li><li> Knowledge of tax laws, regulations, and incentives. </li><li> Excellent numeracy skills. </li><li><br></li></ul>
