Job Description

Responsible for performing the more complex laboratory tests in a specialized field of medical laboratory technology. Work involves assisting the Technical Section Leader in the supervision and training of staff, coordinates the testing including quality assurance/quality control and equipment maintenance. Work is performed with considerable independence and is reviewed by the Technical Section Leader through reports, general discussion and general observations.The Authority reserves the right to assign the officer to any Facility under its management.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>

Key and Critical Responsibilities

<ul><li>Performs the more difficult and complex laboratory tests and examinations in the relevant section in keeping with established procedures taking appropriate action in the case of incidents which threaten the health and safety of staff or the quality.</li></ul><ul><li>Supervises and assists in the training of laboratory staff in systems, methods, procedures and practices of Medical Laboratory Technology.&nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Assists in the preparation of tissues and staining of slides.</li></ul><ul><li>Prepares solutions and stains.</li></ul><ul><li>Resolves problems pertaining to tests and methods and advises Technical Section Leader of any discrepant results.</li></ul><ul><li>Ensures quality assurance and quality control activities are maintained including daily maintenance of equipment.</li></ul><ul><li>Checks all reports before they are recorded.</li></ul><ul><li>Trains Medical Laboratory interns pursuing studies in the field of Medical Laboratory Technology.</li><li>Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the senior.</li><li>Ability to perform duties according to assigned rosters or plans that can be formulated in times of authorized service exigencies.</li><li>Ability to use the relevant computer applications related to job functions.</li></ul>

Key Competencies

<ul><li>A recognized Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or the relevant Associate degree.</li><li>Evidence of continuing education in the relevant field.</li><li>Registration with the Medical Laboratory Technicians Board, Council for Professions related to Medicine.</li><li>Possesses a minimum of 5 years relevant working experience in a clinical laboratory.</li><li>Ability to work independently.</li></ul>
