Job Description
The EHS Coordinator will be the on-site personnel at EMBD locations directly overseeing and supervising all operations (particularly Quarrying and at EMBD's offices) ensuring they are performed in compliance with all applicable safety and health laws, regulations and guidelines. Safety is EMBD's number one priority in its operations.
Key and Critical Responsibilities
<p>- Plans, develops, drafts and implements all required EHS policies, procedures, codes of practice and Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems to ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, contractual obligations and guidelines.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; - Advises management on all EHS matters including the review or formulation of health and safety clauses/sections in contracts, tender documents, and terms of reference, scope of works or plans required for EMBD's operations. </p><div> </div><div>- Develops and monitors health surveillance and welfare procedures particularly for the COVID-19 pandemic. </div><div>- Monitors all EMBD statutory, regulatory and contractual EHS obligations and ensures approvals are obtained and/or renewed/maintained including Certificates of Environmental Clearance, Town and Country and other Regulatory Approvals. </div><div>- Schedules and conducts routine inspections to monitor compliance of the EHS policies, procedures and Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems and regularly reviews, updates and communicates same to all relevant parties. </div><div>- Executes inspections on work sites on a regular basis to ensure that all buildings, compounds, plant, equipment and systems of work are safe, and without risk to health, to identify issues or non-conformity, and recommend necessary actions where unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy are detected. </div><div>- Initiates and conducts EHS training particularly on emergency responses and safety awareness programmes on a regular basis for EMBD's staff, contractors and other stakeholders. </div><div>- Advises and instructs contractors, EHS consultants and other stakeholders on various environmental, safety and health related matters and their responsibilities on EMBD's sites. </div><div>- Raises awareness of health and safety issues among staff, contractors and other stakeholders and liaising with all relevant Statutory Agencies/Bodies. </div><div>- Assesses and procures all required personal protective equipment for employees of EMBD as and when required. </div><div>- Oversees installations, maintenance and disposal of substances, equipment, etc. to ensure they are done in conformity with applicable laws and industry best practice. </div><div>- Conducts risk assessments and recommends preventative measures on EHS. </div><div>- Conducts investigations, and drafts all types of EHS reports including inspection, accident/incident investigations including root cause analysis and findings with recommendations for action. </div><div>- Performs such tasks as may be required for the smooth operation of the department and organisation. </div><div><br></div><div><b><u>INDIVIDUAL SAFETY RESPONSIBILITY: </u></b></div><div>- It is the responsibility of each employee to protect oneself as well as fellow employees from injury. Key Competencies
<b><u>Qualifications: Minimum </u></b><div>&nbsp;- Bachelors Degree in the disciplines of Occupational Safety and Health or Environmental Science/Management or any other related field. </div><div>&nbsp;- Training and/or professional qualifications in Occupational Safety and Health and Health and Safety Management Systems.</div><div><br></div><div><b><u>Experience: Desired</u></b></div><div> - Five (5) years experience in a similar position with experience supervising on-site personnel in the Construction, Quarrying or any extractive industries.</div><div><br></div><div><b><u>Behavioural Competencies: Desired </u></b></div><div>&nbsp;- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills. </div><div>&nbsp;- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. </div><div>&nbsp;- Capacity to coordinate interdisciplinary teams.</div><div><br></div><div><b><u>Technical Competencies: Desired </u></b></div><div>&nbsp;- Knowledge in implementation of EHS Management Systems. </div><div>&nbsp;- Sound knowledge of laws and regulations relating to Health, Safety and Environment. </div><div>&nbsp;- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite. </div><div>&nbsp;- Proficient in conducting training.</div><div> </div><div> </div>
