Job Description
The Electrocardiograph Technician administers tests by operating Electrocardiograph (single or multi-channel recording equipment) to record various leads reflecting the electrical currents emanating from the heart muscle; prepares patients for testing, explains the procedure to patients, calibrates machine and loads graphic paper. Performs tests with portable equipment in patient rooms, submits results to physician for interpretation, maintains records, types and files when necessary; maintains established departmental policies, procedures and objectives, relating to quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control. <div> </div><div><br></div><div>The Authority reserves the right to the assign the officer to any Facility under its management. </div><div><br></div>
Key and Critical Responsibilities
<ul><li>Explains procedure to patient and obtains verbal consent prior to the start of the procedure. <ul></ul></li><li>Prepares patient for examination; applies and removes electrodes and administers diagnostics drugs as directed by the Medical Officer. </li><li>Operates an electrocardiograph machine and records findings of machine for use as data diagnosis of heart ailments. </li><li>Assembles reports for interpretations and diagnostic purpose by Medical Officer. </li><li>Handles the requisitioning and storage of departmental supplies, stationery, technical and medical supplies. </li><li>Regulates appointments for patients both in and out, and deals with related correspondents. </li><li>Establishes and maintains a proper filing system of records and reports of cases and complies statistical data. </li><li>Mounts electro-cardiograph tracings on charts and files in patients notes. </li><li>Keeps and maintains records of electro-cardiograms taken. </li><li>Performs routine clerical duties. </li><li>Assists with the fluoroscopy of cardiac patients. </li><li>Performs any related functions which may be assigned from time to time. </li><li>Ability to perform duties according to assigned rosters or plans that can be formulated in times of authorized service exigencies. </li><li>Ability to use the relevant computer applications related to job functions.</li></ul>
Key Competencies
<ul><li>The incumbent must possess at least Five (5) GCE/CXC OLevels including English Language and Mathematics and a science subject. <p><ul></ul></p></li><li>The incumbent must also have at least two (2) years working experience preferably in a Healthcare Institution would be an asset. </li><li>Certification in Electrocardiograph Technology would be asset.</li></ul>
